Check digit
A mod-97 check analogous to the IBAN Belgian check exists, but historical exceptions made us skip it: structure only.
Vatline does not reject on this check. Only the structure is enforced, so a format-valid number can still turn out to be unregistered. Rejecting a genuine customer costs more than one extra lookup.
Watch out for
- Numbers starting with 1 are now issued; old validators that require a leading 0 reject real new numbers.
