Vatline

Terms of Service

Vatline — EU VAT number validation API. Last updated: 7 September 2026.

1. Who provides this service

Vatline is a service operated by Veltis IT, a sole trader business registered in France under SIRET 104 079 207 00015, 7 rue Michel Ange, 94370 Sucy-en-Brie, France. VAT not applicable, article 293 B of the French General Tax Code.

2. What the service does, and what it is not

Vatline relays VAT number validation requests to VIES, the VAT Information Exchange System operated by the European Commission, and returns the result as JSON.

Vatline is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by, or partnered with the European Commission or any national tax administration. VIES is cited only as the upstream source of the data.

Vatline is not a company database and not a tax advisory service. VIES returns the validity of a number and, depending on the member state, the registered name and address. Some member states — notably Germany and Spain — never disclose name or address; responses mark this explicitly.

3. Accuracy and availability

Validation results originate from national tax administrations through VIES. Vatline transmits them without alteration and cannot verify, correct or guarantee them. A result reflects what the member state returned at the time of the query, nothing more.

VIES is a free service provided without commitment. It saturates, individual member states go offline, and responses can be delayed. Vatline mitigates this with caching and circuit breakers, and reports degraded states explicitly rather than hiding them, but no availability or latency level is guaranteed. The service is provided "as is" and "as available".

4. Your responsibilities as a tax payer remain yours

Using Vatline does not discharge you from your own obligations. Deciding whether a transaction qualifies for intra-Community exemption, keeping evidence of verification, and the tax treatment of your invoices remain entirely your responsibility. Where a consultation number is returned, it is the identifier issued by VIES and passed through unchanged; its evidential value is determined by the applicable tax authority, not by Vatline.

5. Acceptable use

Requests that are malformed for their member state are rejected locally and never forwarded upstream. Abusive traffic may be throttled or blocked without notice.

6. Subscriptions and payment

Access is sold through the RapidAPI marketplace, which handles subscription, metering, invoicing and payment. Their terms apply to the commercial relationship. Quotas and prices are those displayed on the API listing at the time of subscription.

7. Data and privacy

Vatline processes VAT numbers, which identify businesses. Successful results are cached for up to 24 hours and unsuccessful ones for 15 minutes, solely to reduce load on the upstream service. Request payloads are not retained beyond this cache, and no request content is sold or shared with third parties. See the privacy notice for details.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Vatline's liability arising from the use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for it over the three months preceding the event. Vatline is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost revenue, tax reassessments, or penalties resulting from a validation result, from the unavailability of the service, or from the unavailability of VIES.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Changes and termination

These terms may be updated; the date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be reflected on the API listing. Access may be suspended for breach of section 5, or discontinued if the upstream VIES service becomes unavailable to us.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. The service is intended for business customers. Any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the competent French courts, without prejudice to any mandatory protection available to you under the law of your country of residence.

11. Contact

Support requests go through the RapidAPI listing's support channel.
